Oral Sedation Dentistry Regulations
In order for a dentist to provide sedation, the standard of care should be adhered to. The American Dental Association sedation guidelines provide that a dentist should complete at least 24 hours of instructive classroom training with at least 10 clinical patient experiences before providing healthy adult patients with minimal and moderate sedation using oral sedatives (incl. Valium®)*
*ADA guidelines recommend 16 hours training for minimal sedation. The Alaska Board of Dental Examiners does not currently require formal training before providing oral conscious sedation to dental patients.
