| Oral Sedation |
 |
| North Carolina State Board of Dental Examiners Rule §21 NCAC 16Q .0301(i)(1) requires a dentist to complete at least 24 hours of instructive classroom training, document 3 live patient experiences, and obtain a permit before administering Moderate oral sedation to their adult patients.* |
 |
| *In-
office minimal sedation requires an
18-hour permit. Single-
dose anxiolysis by prescription,
with
or without nitrous, does not
require a permit. Grandfathering is also
authorized for obtaining a
permit. |
 |
| DOCS Education’s 'Oral Sedation Dentistry' course is approved by the North Carolina State Board of Dental Examiners as a program that meets the classroom training (didactic) requirement for a minimal or limited moderate conscious sedation permit.** Seminars will be held in DC or Atlanta.
**Board-approval in no way constitutes endorsement. |

| Pediatric Sedation |
 |
| Minimal sedation for children is a
unique science and requires pediatric-
specific training. The standard of care
for providing pediatric minimal sedation
requires several hours of instructive
classroom training with clinically-
oriented experiences. This training is
available in Memphis.

| Why Do Oral Sedation? |
 |
An estimated 5 Million people in North Carolina are currently in need of dental care but are too fearful to seek you out. To date, access to care for these patients has been limited. Now you can help.
|
 |
Practicing oral sedation has many advantages for you, not the least of which is treating a more comfortable patient. Other advantages are: performing more dentistry in a single visit instead of having the patient come back again and again; bigger restorative cases from patients who were previously reluctant due to anxiety; and patients feeling little to no post-operative discomfort regardless of the procedure - resulting in more referrals.
And for your patients it means something else. A comfortable experience - often with no recollection of the visit or the time passed. I often hear of patients who call their dentist the next day not to complain, but to express their gratitude and delight in their first ever visit to the dentist without fear.
